In 2008, after SLF purchased the Brewery, the new General Manager was visited by a group of machete wielding locals, who were concerned over the years of pollution run-off collecting in their river.

General Manager was given a personal tour of the local river, used by the nearby inhabitants for washing, cleaning and drinking and was disturbed by the state of the water.

In the following months, the brewery purchased the land surrounding the brewery and used this to construct two Olympic swimming pool sized retention lakes; to catch, retain and naturally filter all liquid wastes piped from the brewery. An now, even on typical monsoonal downpours, no liquid waste escapes this catchment.
